ART AND CRAFT AUCTION
This is a new item in 2016, organized by Ken Buell. Ken has been locating art and craft items made by members of the community or significant to the community to offer for sale. One of the items will be a pen made from the wood of our Ohio Big Tree on Fancher Road that had to be taken down in 2014. Stephen Hollen from Beavercreek took a piece of the wood last year and has made two pens from it – one for sale at the auction and the other to be housed in the display case in the Community Room. Craft vendors are also being asked to donate an item for the auction. The auction is scheduled to begin at 6pm, but may start at 5pm if the number of items to be auctioned warrants.

EXHIBITORS
Many of the familiar faces will be back with historical, service group, church, and youth group displays. We're still working on finding more exhibitors for this year.

HISTORICAL GROCERY STORES
There will be a new display this year on the historical side - Grocery Stores in Harlem Township.

Harlem Township Display - Natural Environment
There will be a new, very colorful, 4' x 4' display board at Harlem Township Days in 2016 showing the top twenty Ohio invasive plant species, three invasive trees, and the Ohio noxious weeds. Look for it somewhere around the track. It is important for all of us to know what plants are aliens that are crowding out our native plant species and do what we can to eliminate them. In some parts of the township, this will be a daunting job since some species like multiflora rose have had a hundred years to take hold.

ENTERTAINMENT AND MUSIC
We'll be starting out Saturday with the Duffield Calliope providing festive music before and after the opening parade. So come early and travel back to the old days of carnival music.

From 2 to 3:30, look for stilt-walking, unicycle riding juggler, Matt Jergens who will entertain on the field and on stage. Matt is always a fun act to watch.

We have entertainment lined up for Saturday evening, Andy Wallace and Two Bricks Shy, a blend of talented musicians who have been entertaining audiences for over twenty-five years. They have worked with such name acts as Dwight Yoakum, The Chiffons, Pete Fountain, Henry Mancini, Little Texas, and Bill Chase. Two Bricks Shy features popular hits from the 50's, 60's 70's, 80's, 90's, and on into the current Millennium!

And Sunday entertainment, don't want to miss Columbus music legend, Arnett Howard, a jazz musician, journalist, teacher, author, historian, and official ambassador for Columbus, Ohio. His Sunday performance will be with his band, Arnett Howard and Friends.  Although they play every kind of music, from reggae, funk, country, gospel and jazz, the band excels in vintage rhythm and blues, Motown and Stax. Arnett and Friends includes Arnett on keyboards, trumpet and vocals, Bob Davis, keyboards, Mike Roberts, saxophone, Ron Henderson, drums, and David Hampton, drums.

PARADE
In 2010 Harlem Township celebrated its Bicentennial – without an opening parade. 2011 was the first year for Harlem Township Days and because of one of our township's seniors, Mildred Irwin, the parade came into being. Mildred (who celebrated her 100th birthday in 2016) was the Grand Marshal for that first parade.

As the parade has developed since 2011, it's become a central point of recognizing and honoring our community seniors who have lived in the township for many years and are over age 80.

But even though the seniors lead the parade, the parade is really about all of us – our township and the people who make it the special place that it is. So plan to be in the Community Park at 10am on Saturday, August 20 to watch the parade unfold (and find out who the  parade Grand Marshal is for 2016.). Linda Skinner is in charge of the parade and promises – "This year will be the best one yet!"

Tractors? We have tractors – antique ones of all sizes and colors.  They will be lined up on the field for both days of the weekend and will be joined by some garden tractors, hit or miss engines, and an unique old car. Take some time and stop to talk to the tractor owners – you'll find out a lot about the way farming was here in Harlem Township back in the good old days.

TRACTOR TUG PULL
You know the way boys are when they get together – competition – and they have a chance to prove who's the better puller and who has the stronger tractor at the tug pull on Saturday. The pull will begin as soon as the parade is over and go "until they're done" (estimated to be about 7pm). The pull will be on the east side of Route 605, south of the firehouse. And there will be at least one food vendor stationed over there to feed the watchers.

OPEN AIR CHURCH SERVICE (NON-DENOMINATIONAL)
It's become a tradition, a community, open air, church service on Sunday morning. And once again, the service will be led by Pastor Bud Leskovac of the Harlem Road United Methodist Church. The service will be held in the tent, near the park shelter house at 10:30am.

CAR SH0W!!!!!!!
Antiques, classics, street rods, trucks – you name it and you'll find it on the field on Sunday during Harlem Township Days. There is an entrance fee to show off a car in the show ($10 last year), but the first 100 registered will receive a dash plaque sponsored by John Jacobus of ReMax realty. There will be Fab 40 awards sponsored (and selected) by Bob Leone who's sold insurance in Sunbury for many years. And there will be special class prizes – eight of them – sponsored by local area businesses. So come out on Sunday and have a look at all the cars!

50/50 Raffle
For $1 a ticket, participate in the 50/50 raffle.  Michelle Solomon will be walking around Saturday and Sunday selling tickets!  Don't miss the drawing on Sunday at 3 pm by the big tent.  You MUST be present to win! Half of the proceeds will go to Harlem Township Heritage so that events like Harlem Township Days can happen!

On Sunday from 1-4pm, there will be a massage therapist giving demos. So if you always wanted to see what a massage therapist could do for you and your aches and pains – this is the chance.
